5 Easter Eggs Hidden within Popular Music Videos

It may have been a month since Easter, but that doesn’t stop us looking for easter eggs – no, not the chocolate kind of ones but the hidden message/meaning or insider’s joke that can be found tucked away within a music video. How many of these did you previously spot?

1. Lady Gaga – Telephone ft. Beyoncé

Lady Gaga’s Telephone music video, featuring Beyoncé is filled with easter eggs and hidden mentions to pop culture. One of these easter eggs features the diner within the video. The same diner is used regularly within the American Drama TV show NCIS.

2. Maroon 5 – Sugar

The music video to “Sugar” starts with band leader, Adam Levine telling the camera “It’s December 6, 2014. We’re going to drive across LA and hit every wedding we possibly can. It’s going to be awesome.” The funny bit? The band actually crashed real weddings for the video, putting delight on the faces of many wedding-goers.

3. Green Day – 21 Guns

During a scene within the music video for 21 Guns, police fire upon the room that the band is playing in. A woman shrieks and puts her hands over her ears to cover the loud sound of gunfire. On the wall beside her, is the lyrics to another Green Day song “See The Light” (1:17).

4. Iggy Azalea – Fancy ft. Charli XCX

During Iggy’s music video to pop hit “Fancy”, she addresses the class wearing a yellow skirt and blazer. This is the same outfit as worn by Cher Horowitz in the 1995 film Clueless of which is based loosely on Jane Austen’s 1815 novel Emma. The plot of the video goes on to see similar scenes that appeared within Clueless, such as a lorry nearly hitting into their convertible red car, as well as the logo of the film appearing within the video but instead saying “Iggy Azalea” instead of “Clueless”.

5. Kanye West – Stronger

Throughout Kanye West’s “Stronger” music video, two robots are seen dealing with controls when Kanye is piped up to the machine he’s in. These two robots are Daft Punk, of which Daft Punk’s song “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” is a vocal sample played within the song itself.
